The Eisteddfod blanket came after the Aberteifi Cardigan.
The idea was to have a gentle little project to keep people knitting..and meeting.. we were missing our gatherings. I needed to find a free room so the idea came to create something for Cardigan Castle in exchange for the use of a room. I was going to use all the leftover bits from the cardigan but the Castle liked the idea of a blanket to commemorate the first Eisteddfod, Cadigan Castle being the birthplace of the Welsh Traditional Eisteddfod - a great party and competition in music, poetry and dance. So that was the theme. Knitted all in wool, some pieces knitted at home, and then brought in we stitched in together at our weekly meetings. It was finally raffled in November 2012 and was won by a woman from Llanelli, a Welsh speaker who was so delighted at winning the blanket as she has a great interest in the Eisteddfod and Welsh culture. That was lucky! they have agreed to loan the Blanket back to the Castle from time to time! |
